Foot balm for dry winter feet (and hands)! I don't like a lot of foot balms I see in the store, so I'm experimenting with "Skin Food." Weleda is a *good company, the creme is thick and rich, ("the ultimate moisturizer for dry, rough skin. Our best-selling product that originally launched in 1926"), and I like the scent (contains aromatic plant extracts of Pansy, Chamomile and Calendula). [Founder] Rudolph Steiner collaborated with one of the first women physicians in Europe, Dr. Ita Wegman, and a team of scientists. In 1921, they created the first synergistic products orchestrated to reconnect the body with its natural rhythms. For the most active ingredients, they planted the first biodynamic gardens, biodynamic agriculture means that farming, seed production and landscape maintenance follow the rhythms of nature and the earth. "*We ...strive to make the best non-toxic, cruelty-free, paraben-free, GMO-free, phthalates-free and synthetic fragrance-free products available in the marketplace. ...Weleda is a people-and-planet over profits brand. We still cultivate our own biodynamic gardens and work in fair trade agreements with small farmers and gardeners to source the best raw materials."
"Biodiversity is crucial to us; without it, there would be no Weleda products."

In my longer sessions (1.5 hour) I often use Jurlique's Skin Balancing Oil for the face. (Thank you Barbara, a holistic aesthetician at Pharmaca, for making the recommendation. You were right!) This is a lightweight face oil made with evening primrose oil, macadamia seed oil, rose hip oil, safflower oil, shea butter, avocado oil, jojoba oil and marshmallow. Yum. And it smells good too. Jurlique is committed to sustainable practices. They are striving for more than 95% of natural ingredients in their products and to improve recyclability of their entire packaging at more than 95%.
Their ingredients come from their Sustainable Agriculture, Australia (NASAA) Certified Organic and Biodynamic farm. . By 2015 they plan to further reduce their energy and water consumption by 20% and decrease the amount of waste to landfill by 20%. Dr. Hauschka Blackthorn Body OilSometimes I use this as the first contact with the skin because the ingredients are so soothing and healthy. Blackthorn body oil is made with extracts of blackthorn, birch leaf and St. John'swort in a base of organic sunflower seed oil. Dr. Hauschka says it helps reduce the appearance of stretch marks. Blackthorn is a hearty rose, in the family of quince, almond, apple and pear. "If one day we understand the rhythms of nature, this will be natural science in its truest form." --Dr. Rudolf Hauschka I like this product also because the mission of the Dr. Hauschka company is to support the healing of humanity and the earth and they're not just talking. They've been at it for years! Dr. Rudolph Hauschka was born in 1891 and was inspired by Dr. Rudolf Steiner to create botanical remedies based on rhythmic exposures to elemental polarities and the homeopathic principle of potentization. He and Elizabeth Sigmund then developed a anthroposophically based holistic approach to skin care health. The ingredients are 100% natural and biodynamically and organically grown, or ethically wild-harvested for over 45 years. They only use natural botanical preservatives and never use anything from an organization involved in animal testing.
Aveda "Energizing Composition" oil. This stuff smells really yummy. Energizing Composition is made with organic sunflower oil, organic green coffee seed oil, vitamin E and an uplifting blend of essences including lavender, ylang ylang and sweet orange. I like to use Aveda products because their stated mission is to
"care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways in which we give back to society." In 1989, they were the first privately held company to sign the CERES Principles (Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies). They use post consumer recycled packaging and their manufacturing is 100% wind powered. |

Arnica montana.Arnica is used for strains, sprains and bruises. It belongs to the sunflower family and is native to North America and Eurasia. It has been used medicinally for centuries.
"Arnica montana is more effective than placebo when used for the treatment of several conditions including post-traumatic and postoperative pain, edema, and ecchymosis. However, its dosages and preparations used have produced substantial differences in the clinical outcome. Cumulative evidence suggests that Arnica montana may represent a valid alternative to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, at least when treating some specific conditions." Effectiveness and Safety of Arnica montana in Post-Surgical Setting, Pain and Inflammation https://journals.lww.com/americantherapeutics/Abstract/2016/01000/Effectiveness_and_Safety_of_Arnica_montana_in.21.aspx "Arnica montana has been used mainly postoperatively in cosmetic surgery to reduce bruising. Information on Arnica montanais hard to find in one source and, therefore, is the subject of this chapter. The author discusses the components of Arnica montana and therapeutic uses such as anti-inflammatory, blood coagulation, arthritis, postpartum bleeding, traumatic injuries, and cosmetic procedures."
